Midsummer's Eve Here: Midsummer Bonfires Right on the Lillebælt

What exactly is St. Hans?
St. Hans Aften is the Danish Midsummer’s Eve—celebrated on the eve of St. John’s Day. The festival falls close to the summer solstice, which is the brightest and longest day of the year. In Denmark, this means: Fires are lit on beaches, in harbors, and by lakes; people gather, sing, laugh, and toast the summer.
The tradition goes way back. Long before the Christian era, people in the North lit fires to celebrate the shortest night. Today, for many Danes, St. Hans is one of the most beautiful evenings of the year—with no rush, just fire, water, and the bright northern sky over the Little Belt.
This is how we celebrate St. Hans at Galsklint Strand Camping
On Tuesday, June 23, we invite you to join us starting at 6:00 p.m. We’ll be celebrating right by the Little Belt—on the meadow behind the kitchen building, with a view across the water. You won’t have to go far: it’s just a few steps from your campsite, tent, or comfort cabin.
The highlight of the evening: a unique midsummer bonfire right on the Little Belt. As the flames blaze over the water and reflect in the strait, you’ll sit on the shore, gaze out, and let the evening slowly sink in. This scene—fire over the sea, the bright Danish summer sky—is one you won’t soon forget.
Accompanying the scene is live music by Calum Land—relaxing sounds that carry the evening as the sun sinks lower. To ensure no one has to watch on an empty stomach or with a dry throat, grilled sausages and beer are available for purchase on-site. That’s all it takes: a warm meal, a cool drink, good music, and the fire over the water.
An evening for everyone
That’s exactly what makes St. Hans in Denmark so special: not a loud spectacle, but a quiet, communal evening by the water.
For families with children, it’s an experience that sticks with you—the fire over the water, the music, the long, light evenings. The kids can play on the lawn, make new friends, and experience a real Danish summer evening.
For couples, it’s one of those moments that make a vacation special. A glass of beer in hand, the crackling of the flames, the warm colors over the Belt—family-friendly and romantic at the same time, without any hustle and bustle.
For our older guests and seniors, it’s a relaxed, atmospheric evening by the sea where you can simply sit, watch, and strike up a conversation.
No matter how you arrived—in a campervan on the premium campsite, with a tent, or in a tiny house: everyone is welcome this evening.
