Genuine North German thatched roof romance in the heart of the Elbe Valley floodplain nature reserve: the Bockelkathen HofGut Apartments are your high-quality, nature-oriented retreat. The buildings were originally constructed in the 19th century and underwent extensive renovation and expansion in 2018. The HofGut is located in the glacial valley of the Elbe, surrounded by a unique reserve that is home to many rare animal and plant species.

You can feel this unique environment every time you leave your comfortable apartment: our grounds are surrounded by greenery and home to a total of three large vacation homes and two tiny houses. Thanks to the large grounds, cozy terraces, and balconies, every guest can find a sunny spot outdoors. The Elbtalaue Biosphere Reserve and the Elbe River are literally right on your doorstep, and the cities of Hamburg and Lüneburg are not far away. So during your stay at the Bockelkathen Hofgut Apartments, you can experience many attractions – both natural and cultural.

Rebuilt with love and sustainability

During the extensive restoration, great importance was attached to the sustainable use of building materials. Existing materials such as the half-timbering, clinker bricks, and beautiful solid wood floorboards were reconditioned and reused. Today, these natural materials not only ensure an excellent indoor climate, but also create a very special atmosphere in our historic HofGut just outside the Lüneburg Heath.

Enjoy the uniqueness of this historic location in our individually and luxuriously furnished apartments and tiny houses. Six of the eight apartments are barrier-free, two of which have been converted into cozy maisonette apartments with sleeping accommodations on the upper floor. The living space of the units ranges from approximately 36 to 62 square meters, offering the right amount of space for every need.
At the rear of the estate are our high-quality tiny houses, which were built and installed in 2023. Here you can enjoy a warm and inviting atmosphere and a unique view from the window of the beautiful nature of the Elbe valley.

Everything you need

Regardless of which accommodation you choose, you can expect amenities that leave nothing to be desired. A fully equipped kitchenette with two hotplates, a refrigerator, and a Nespresso capsule coffee machine, a modern bathroom, and a separate sleeping area with a double bed: this and much more is an integral part of your stay with us. You can also expect a living and dining area with a TV and high-quality furniture, as
well as free Wi-Fi for leisure or workation in one of the most charming areas of the Elbe valley.

The immediate surroundings offer a wide range of leisure activities. Whether you prefer hiking or paddling through nature, playing a round of golf, or exploring the sights in the region, we have put together a variety of exciting activities for you.

You will find the HofGut at Bockelkathener Str. 10 in 21379 Lüdersburg. From the west, you can reach us via the A39 motorway (e.g., coming from the Hamburg/Hanover region), and from the east, you can reach us via the B216 federal highway. Free parking spaces are available for you directly on the HofGut.

The nearest train station in the region is the main station in Lüneburg. From there, take the bus to the "Kirchtwiete" bus stop—lines 5901, 5952, and 5953, among others, stop there. Depending on the connection, your journey from Lüneburg train station to the Lüdersburg bus stop will take about half an hour.

Our HofGut is certified as a "Bett+Bike" accommodation, meaning it is also ideally suited for cyclists. Several cycle paths, such as the Elbe Cycle Route, pass through our region in the surrounding area.

Our parking spaces are free of charge and are located directly on the estate grounds.

There are many public charging stations in Lüneburg, the closest one being at the Shell gas station at Erbstorfer Landstraße 2b in 21337 Lüneburg.

Organizational matters

Our apartments are designed for use by two people. Additional guests are possible in certain apartments, but only with the host's consent and subject to a surcharge.

Your apartment will be available from 3:00 p.m. on the day of arrival and until 10:00 a.m. on the day of departure.

Late check-out or early check-in are possible on request. However, we cannot guarantee this as a contractual entitlement.

No, there is no visitor's tax to pay for your stay in Bockelkathen.

Furnishings, equipment & extras

No, half or full board is not offered on site. However, you can have fresh baked goods delivered directly to the HofGut for your breakfast via this link.

HofGut has special apartments that are perfect for your vacation with your dog. Please note that we can only allow a maximum of two dogs per apartment. If you would like to bring more than two dogs, please contact us in person beforehand. There is an additional charge for bringing dogs; you can find the current prices in the price overview.

Just a few minutes' walk from the HofGut is the Hof Leuer horse breeding and riding facility. As our guest, you have the exclusive opportunity to board your horse here for the duration of your stay. If you wish, you can also improve your riding skills under the guidance of licensed trainer Dr. Claudia Leuer.

We kindly ask you not to bring any other pets. This includes cats, rodents, snakes, and all other animals.

No, the HofGut is a non-smoking accommodation.

Firecrackers and fireworks are strictly prohibited on New Year's Eve due to the thatched roofs. This means that you can enjoy your vacation with your dog on New Year's Eve at the HofGut without any noise.

Yes, apartments 1, 5, and 6, as well as tiny houses 9 and 10, are equipped with barrier-free access.

Yes, you can register for free Wi-Fi during your stay with us.

Yes, at the beginning of your stay, we will provide you with a made-up bed and sufficient towels.

The final cleaning costs vary per apartment, but are included in the booking price. So you don't have to worry about any additional hidden costs.

No, unfortunately, there is no washing machine or dryer available.

You can store your bike in our lockable shed right next to the parking lot. There is also an open barn at the back of the property where you can store your bike.

No, there is no air conditioning or fan. Thanks to the relative proximity to the coast, it does not get too hot in our region, even in summer. In addition, the thick stone walls of our houses ensure pleasantly cool indoor temperatures in summer and a cozy, warm atmosphere in winter.
